Stephen Tillery, 34, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. Friday on various charges after failing to stop for Dutchess County Sheriff's deputies attempting to stop him, Capt. John Watterson said.
The incident unfolded around 3:20 am when Tillery was being interviewed by a Sheriff’s Office sergeant on Winnikee Avenue, Watterson said.
.At that time he was suspected of being wanted on an emergency hospitalization order, which is typically issued when someone is thought to be a danger to themselves and others to the degree that they require immediate treatment, he added.
During the interview, Tillery fled in a vehicle, after which he failed to comply when deputies and officers from other agencies attempted to stop him.
Tillery continued driving until he reached I-84 and Route 312, where he was ultimately stopped and taken into custody, Watterson added.
Tillery was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a vehicle and reckless driving (both misdemeanors), as well as various vehicle and traffic law violations.
After being processed he was arraigned before the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, the New York State Police, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
